It has been observed that when the coronavirus pandemic was
hitting the peak, numerous healthcare professionals, across the globe, were
involved in controlling and preventing it. As they were using personal
protective equipment, they were able to prevent themselves from getting closer
to the risk of contracting the virus. Although several people, other than those
working in the healthcare and medical industry, were also using PPE, not all of
them were able to prevent themselves from getting affected.
Beximco Group, the most reputed company in Bangladesh, explains that the reason behind this
was that these people did not have the training needed for understanding the
correct usage of the equipment. The company is also the largest private sector
employer in Bangladesh and also have PPE plant.
Reasons Why Training for PPE is a Must
Healthcare companies believe that personal protective
equipment is used in conditions where certain kinds of risks, mainly towards
health, are present. In such an environment, wearing PPE like a gown, mask,
face shield, etc., can work as a measure to save one's health from getting
affected. In addition, working in this environment will provide some peace of
mind knowing that the risks to health have been prevented.
Protective equipment such as gowns and face masks is usually
worn over the body. However, while wearing or even removing it, certain
techniques are involved. Beximco Group
explains that even when the personal protective equipment has to be stored,
certain techniques will be involved in that as well. These techniques can only
be known when training has been given.
The company further explains that without getting trained,
even the wearer can be exposed to risks along with several other people. In
that case, the use of PPE may not work as a preventative measure. It may only
introduce the harmful elements of the environment to other people.

All in All
Personal protective equipment basically serves the purpose
of preventing infection or the spread of a particular virus. When the training
for using it is not given, the purpose for which it has been designed may not
be served. Considering this, the training for using it becomes necessary prior
to using PPE.
